Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children

At Williamsburg Christian Academy, we recognize the challenges military families face when transitioning between schools due to frequent relocations and deployments. As part of our commitment to supporting military-connected students, WCA adheres to the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, ensuring that students receive a smooth academic transition when enrolling or transferring.

The Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact was established in 2009 to address the unique needs of military children and eliminate common barriers to their education. This includes policies related to:

  • Enrollment & Placement: Ensuring that incoming students are placed in the appropriate grade level and courses based on their previous school records.
  • Graduation Requirements: Helping students meet Virginia’s graduation requirements, even if they have moved from another state or country.
  • Extracurricular Participation: Ensuring that military students have access to athletics, clubs, and other activities, even if they enroll mid-season.
  • Special Education Services: Providing continued support for students with IEPs and 504 Plans without unnecessary delays.

As an IB World School with rolling admissions, WCA is uniquely positioned to provide a globally recognized curriculum that aligns well with other IB, U.S., and international schools. Our team is here to help military families navigate the transition and ensure that students thrive academically and socially.

Special Needs Navigation and Parental Rights

At Williamsburg Christian Academy, we are committed to supporting all students, including those with special learning needs. We work closely with families to ensure that students receive the necessary accommodations and resources to thrive in our academic environment.

Special Education Services and Parental Rights

We adhere to Virginia’s Consent Provisions and Parental Rights, following state and federal guidelines to ensure families are informed and involved in decisions regarding their child’s education. Our team is here to help parents navigate special education services, procedural safeguards, and parental consent requirements.

Student Personal Education Plans

If a student requires academic accommodations, WCA develops a Personal Education Plan (PEP) tailored to their needs. Accommodations are provided to ensure students have the support they need to succeed, and these services are noted on progress reports to keep families informed.

FERPA – Protecting Student Privacy

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law protecting student educational records' privacy. Under FERPA, parents have specific rights regarding access to and control over their child’s academic records. Once a student reaches the age of 18 or enrolls in a postsecondary institution, these rights are transferred to the student.
