The Eagle Varsity Boy’s Soccer team finished tied in a hard fought battle with Atlantic Shores Christian School on Tuesday and now sits at 3-0-1 for the season, giving them sole possession of first place in the Metro Conference.
Coming into the game, Atlantic Shores had faced some of the stiffest competition in VISAA’s Division 2, losing handily to top-ranked Eastern Mennonite, as well as #7 Christchurch and #9 Hampton Roads Academy, with a resultant 2-7 record. That strength of schedule showed right away as Shores planted its first goal within the first few minutes of the game.
Senior Cle’von Greene knotted the game at a goal apiece after several very close calls around goal on both ends, splitting two defenders, and catching the goalie out of position to score the first goal.
Atlantic Shores took the lead once again in the second half, but Greene was able to score again on a rocket in the middle of a crowded box. After several very close calls on shots by WCA, including one in which a Shores player had to throw themselves across the goal line to prevent WCA from getting the go-aheadĀ goal, the final whistle sounded, ending the game in a 2-2 tie.
In JJV soccer action, the team recently notched its first win with a 2-1 victory over Stonebridge. 7th grader Keith Cardenas scored both goals for the Eagles.
The Varsity boys next face Grove Christian and Gateway Christian at home in consecutive games next week, with the spirit Tailgate before and during
Tuesday’s game against Gateway. Come out with all your spirit, as the class exhibiting the most spirit will leave the night with a pizza party!
