WCA Lower School Classrooms Week in Review!

Recently Chelsea Meisinger, our Elementary Music teacher, taught scientific concepts and vocabulary along with music theory. Her lessons on sound and vibration could easily have been found in our Science Sandbox where weekly students do weekly science investigations, experiments, and learn the scientific method. But you might say, “This is music!”

It is our educational philosophy at WCA to make connections across the curriculum so that deep and meaningful learning occurs. As Ben Johnson wrote in his Edutopia article, Deeper Learning: Why Cross-Curricular Learning is Essential, “When professional educators combine their energies and reinforce the same deep learning, the stream of information is clearer for the student, the learning activities are more fluid, and the student’s reservoir of knowledge and skills fills faster.”

What Mrs. Meisinger taught is an intentional effort towards conceptual collaboration. She is passionate to show her students that music has clear connections to math, science, literature, and history. This cross-curricular approach can be found in every lower school classroom at WCA!
