In conjunction with our State of the School Address, WCA unveiled its new and improved website. The changes that will jump out the most to visitors will most likely be visual, as the site contains state-of-the art web presentation effects, but the structure of the website has been substantially altered as well.
The web design effort has been a project all fall, and includes wholesale changes the way in which pages are connected, and has added several navigation elements that users of the old site will find very helpful.
The site has been converted to a mobile-responsive theme. This allow the pages to be designed in such a way that they appear differently when viewed on a mobile device such as a tablet or iPhone. With the bulk of the web page launched, the site is being checked over at this point for mobile elements that need to be adjusted.
The site has been designed to service primarily the new visitor with prospective students, as is the focus of most school websites. In order to provide parents with what they need, a special ‘Parent’ button is located in the header and footer, which takes existing school parents to special ‘Parent Central’ page, containing information, images and links to almost anything an existing parent would need or want to see or know. This page of the site is continuing construction to make as much information available in a compact interface that is exciting and interactive with our viewers. Have an idea for something that would helpful on Parent Central? Send us a note!
Our athletic team pages have been improved and standardized, with new features such as MaxPreps news feeds, Coach info and contact, Roster presentation, and embedded Google Calendars on each page. Although the individual sports are no longer available from the main athletics menu, clicking on Athletics in the main menu will deliver the user to the main athletics page, which has a quick links bar to visit any athletics program page. This bar will be added soon as well to the Parent Central Page for Quick Navigation.
In the header are three access links to our most sought after information: WCA News and the School Calendars, as well as a Take a Tour Quicklink for new visitors to the site. The WCA News feed is also available on the Parent Central Page, and is embedded on the bottom of the front page.
Direct picture link buttons are provided on our main header and footer for our social media sites at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. A button for LinkedIn is also provided in the page footer (bottom of the page).
In addition to standard links for emails, which launch your platform’s email client, clicking on any telephone number on the site will trigger a prompt to call that number through your mobile device.
The format of this page you are now reading has been redesigned as well, with content off to the right, and the title and image plus a ‘similar news’ carousel on the left. This replaces the cluttered presentation used in the old website, for easier reading!
In order to accommodate more information in a smaller space, and to make the display a little more exciting, we have incorporated numerous visual elements , such as advanced sliders, accordion boxes, text animations (except on Internet Explorer), tabbed information displays and hover flip boxes.
In addition to all of these features listed above, we will also be developing a full student page which our students will be involved in designing, and an upgraded Giving site which we hope God will put in front of the right people to help us with the costs of our ministry and programs, and to help fund scholarships for students who otherwise would be unable to attend WCA.
We hope that you enjoy the new website. As our site is new, there will be more than a couple bugs and oversights, and we would greatly appreciate reports on any pages which are not displaying properly or have links that do not work. Thanks!
