The weather outside wasn’t precisely what we had prayed for, but God nonetheless delivered us a fantastic WCADAY2017 on Monday night.
All day rain didn’t dissuade a packed cafetorium that dove into trays of pulled pork barbecue from Two Drummers Smokehouse. The rain would also let up enough for the kids to head outside and play, as well as enjoy flavored snow ice from Snowmania Island.
The evening started with Dr. David Breslin addressing the crowd, thanking God for all the successes that we have been blessed with this school year, from the reboot of the drama program, to our Flowering of the Cross ceremony, and our VISAA State Basketball Championship.
With the theme of the evening, “Honoring Those that Serve”, Dave thanked all those in our community who serve as local first responders and active duty military, allowing our ministry to operate in safety and in a nation of religious freedom. After recognizing all those in the audience who serve us, Dave made a surprise announcement that from this point forward, the WCA Board has approved a 15% off tuition discount to the families of first responders and active duty military starting in the 2017-2018 school year.
Dr. Breslin also thanked two of our family members who will be departing the staff of WCA, Athletic Director Chris Brown, and College Counselor Denise Barnhart, who will both be missed, but will assuredly remain part of our WCA support system going forward. Dave also announced the addition of three new staff members: Kraig Ware as our new Athletic Director, Addison Snyder in an expanded position as Academic, College, and Career Counselor, and Donna Walls in the reestablishment of the position of Student Life Director. Stay tuned for formal announcements on all three of these positions.
After dinner, guests were encouraged to proceed into the gymnasium, where informational displays were set up for all WCA academic, athletic, arts and extracurricular programs. Already planned for next year are a new Chess Club, and ecoClub, a completely student-run club to pursue environmental initiatives in recycling, area trash cleanup and education on gardening as well as tree and bush planting on and off campus. We even had New2You in the house showing how to re-purpose old furniture with resurfacing methods!
Although the event ended officially at 8:00PM, many stayed well past that time, engaging school leaders with thanks for what many described as the greatest year they have ever experienced at WCA, and explaining how much of a positive life changing influence the school has made on their students.
The overwhelming feeling at the event was that WCA is truly on a track, placed there by God, for even greater things in the very near future! A huge thanks to Two Drummers, SnoMania Island, and all staff, faculty and parents that combined to make this a memorable WCADay!
