Upper School Awards Ceremony Recap: Sixteen WCA Students Inducted to National Honor Society


Williamsburg Christian Academy held its annual Upper School Awards Ceremony last Wednesday, May 31st, which honored students grades 9 through 12 for achievements in academics, arts, athletics and in spiritual character and leadership. In addition to the slate of awards, 16 students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS), and 6 students were inducted in the National Art Honor Society (NAHS).

Here is a summary of all award recipients and Honor Society Inductees:

ACSI Distinguished High School Student Awards:  

  • The Academics Award is given to the students in each grade with a high GPA in their respective class.   This year’s recipients are:  Mian Chen, Dexter Radciffe and Mackenzie Adkins
  • The Leadership Award is presented to a student in each grade who is actively involved in community service or ministry related activities.   This year’s recipients are:  Amy MacLean, Jordan Wright and Emily Jutras
  • The Fine Arts Award is presented to a student in each grade who actively participates in art, music or drama.   This year’s recipients are:  Damiana Mathes, Zane Eckols and Lindsey Flanagan
  • The Athletics Award is given to the student in each grade who actively participates in school team or individual sports and/or intramurals.   This year’s recipients are: Cle’von Greene, Peter Rodenberg and Henry Comber
  • The Christian Service Award is given to a student in each grade who has a clear Christian testimony and shows Christian service.  This year’s recipients are: Evan Henley, Ashley Nice, and Emily Jutras

Principal’s Awards:

This is given to students (one per grade) who have modeled Christ like behavior (in their spirit, attitude, kindness to others, and in their words). These students represent Christ-like self-control and a balanced approach to student life (both academic and behavioral). They are examples of what a school principal would describe as outstanding in their character and self-discipline. (*These students may not have any documented behavioral consequences for the entire school year, including before school detention)

Character Awards

  • Jonathan award -given to one senior who has demonstrated genuine friendship and concern for his classmates. Danny Kean.
  • Caleb award – is given to the senior who  has shown perseverance and diligence throughout the year. Brad Barrs.
  • Joshua award – given to the senior who has a positive effect on and actively participates in school activities: Chris Thomas.
  • Solomon award – presented to the senior who is wise beyond their years.  Mackenzie Adkins.
  • Miriam award – presented to a senior who is nurturing to the younger students.   Lindsey Flanagan.
  • Ruth award- given to a senior who has endured special hardships with a Christ-honoring testimony.  Alexis Heath.
  • Martha award – presented to the senior who is known as a doer and shows a willingness to serve others, sometimes when we no one else is working.   This student demonstrated these qualities when she led her ASL 3 class in teaching the 1st graders some basic sign language.  She inspired the young children and served both her classmates and the WCA community!  This year’s recipient of the Martha award is Nicole Dunn.
  • Moses award – given to a senior who has endured challenges and grown to a place where they are now choosing to do what is right.  This year this student has matured and demonstrated a commitment to working diligently and consistently doing what is right.  This year’s Moses award goes to Ethan Moore.
  • Mordecai award – presented to the senior who has shown a unique loyalty to his friends by his willingness to encourage, support and do for them.  He has a protective nature that makes him sacrifice his time and energy to help those friends he is committed to.  This year’s Mordecaia award went to Henry Comber.

Additional Awards

  • King Service Award – given for outstanding service to the community.   This year the student chosen for the King Service Award is Abbey Terracina.
  • The Eagle Award is presented to the senior with a high GPA and one who has contributed to the overall Christian atmosphere at Williamsburg Christian Academy.   This year the Eagle Award is presented to Emily Jutras.

Edgar Randall Scholar Athlete Award

This award is presented to the male high school student who plays at least one varsity sport and maintains a 3.5 or higher GPA.   The focus here is “Student Athlete”.     This years award was granted to Luke Anderson.

John Perkins Heart and Hustle Award

This is the third year these award have been made in honor of our previous athletic director, John Perkins, and is awarded to  student who displays heart and determination in the athletic realm at WCA.   This years Heart and Hustle Award went to senior Aaron Copland.
