WCA Girl’s Basketball Team Handles Metro Opponents in Wins, Runs into Red Hot Miller School Team in Loss Last Week

The beginning of last week pitted our VISAA D3 leading Lady Eagles against two Metro Conference foes, Isle of Wight Academy and Alliance Christian and resulted in resounding victories, but the team was defeated soundly by a tall and talented Miller School team last Saturday, which played very hot as well.

After having been voted as the #1 Ranked girls team in the first VISAA Division 3 poll of the season, the girls lived up to that vote with a dominating 65-29 road win at Isle of Wight Academy. The scoring was spread around well, with Junior Armani Franklin leading all scorers with 17 points followed closely behind by Aquazia Jones with 15.

Last Friday, the team cruised to a solid home victory over winless Alliance Christian  59-20. Kaylee Boger and Patricia Davie both scored 20 points to pace the Lady Eagles.

The level of competition ramped up significantly on Saturday, however, when WCA faced the Miller School. The Lady Eagles, led by Armani Franklin’s 20 points, fell behind early, and were never able to catch up to Miller, who at one point hit seven three pointers in the span of a few minutes to pull away for a 73-47 win. The loss dropped WCA to a very respectable 8-3 record, and the team will face St. Gertrude on Wednesday 1/20 at home.
