Boys WCA Eagle Hoops Snag Two Metro Wins, Fall Short Against D2 Millwood

With our near record snowfall last weekend, both of our Friday games against Portsmouth Christian and Saturday vs. Christ Chapel had to be rescheduled, but the Eagles countered icy temps with two blazing victories before going ice cold vs. Division 2 Millwood as temps warmed up.

The boys Eagle Hoops team started their recent group of games with a blistering 100+ point performance over a rebuilding Denbigh Baptist squad. After having scored more points in the first quarter than Denbigh scored in the entire game, the bench received some great playing time that should pay off well down the line in both the VISAA playoffs and following seasons. Senior Austin  Ortiz topped all scorers with 16 points, and recent Lynchburg College commit Andre Brown chipped in 15.

On the heels of that victory, the Eagles faced a challenge on the road against a scrappy Stonebridge team. Although WCA was a heavy favorite heading into the game, Stonebridge battled and kept the score tied into the half, before WCA managed a 16 point differential to pull away heading into the fourth.

Seeds of those struggles manifested, however, in the final game of the week against a strong team in Division 2 Millwood. Hampered by ice cold shooting, the Eagles fell behind quickly by close to thirty points in the first half alone, and were never able to recover, falling 78-59 to record their fifth loss.

The Eagles look to rebound from that loss against Metro rival Atlantic Shores, which should be a huge battle at home, come out Tuesday night at 8:15PM to catch a pivotal matchup in the Metro conference!
