WCA Seniors Green and Chillers named VISAA Division 3 Basketball Players of the Year, Coach Chris Brown Named Coach of the Year

WCA Basketball arguably had two of the best teams it has ever fielded this year on the court. And as further proof that this was the case, both seniors Xavier Green and Charnissa Chillers were named Boys and Girls 2016 VISAA Division 3 Players of the Year respectively

Each player was instrumental in their teams’ successes all season long, which led to both being similarly named as METRO Conference Players of the Year. Green is headed this fall to Old Dominion University on full scholarship, and Chillers has a full ride as well to Radford.

Joining Green on the All-State team for Division 3 was Junior Cle’von Greene on the first team, and Andre Brown, a Lynchburg College commit, who made Second Team All-State.

On the ladies side, Junior Armani Franklin joined Chillers with All-State First team honors.

“These young ladies represent our school so well on and off the court as they are both honor students and spend countless hours practicing to give our program the absolute best,” praised WCA Athletic Director and boys Head Coach Chris Brown.

Coach Brown earned an honor of his own, as VISAA named the first-year WCA boys varsity head coach as Division 3’s Coach of the Year. Brown gave credit to his players and coaches, “I am also very honored to be recognized as the 2016 VISAA State Coach of The Year in Division lll. It is truly an honor to represent WCA at this level and I give credit to  my assistant coaches and players for meeting me 100% of the way to achieve our goals at a high level. Our team accomplished so much this year going 29-6 overall and Undefeated 19-0 in our conference winning both the Metro Regular Season and Tournament Championship…”

Congratulations to all our players and Coach for bringing honor to God and WCA with their outstanding effort and sportsmanship all season!
