CoronaVirus Update- Message from the Head of School: WCA Instituting Remote Course Study

Dear WCA families,

This week, we have prepared faculty, students, and staff for a potential long-term phase of our Remote Course Study (RCS) per my February 28 email to you regarding the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. Due to a rapid spread of the contagion in James City County over the past 24 hours, Williamsburg Christian Academy will facilitate remote classes through Praxi and Google Classroom during the following weeks:

March 16-20

March 23-27

March 30-April 3

Family Academic Conferences are canceled for March 19-20, and all teachers will email parents regarding their child’s second-semester academic progress by March 27 due to the demands of RCS.

Note that we will observe Spring Break on April 6-13. Thus, we intend to resume on-site classes on Tuesday, April 14.

Sterilization of the school will occur during RCS. The school is off limits during RCS. Note that this weekend’s scheduled activities, including tonight’s talent show, will take place as expected. Remote Course Study begins on Monday. We’ve canceled all athletic events and activities between March 16-April 14.

Questions? You may review my February 28 letter to families regarding our preparation for this scenario, or you may contact your child’s instructor. I have copied and pasted my February 28 letter to families below:

———-

1) School Learning Management Systems, such as Praxi, Blackbaud, Renweb, Rediker, and Veracross exist for the purpose of delivering remote education to an entire community during such events. Should WCA need to adjust operations due to coronavirus challenges to the area, all Lower and Upper School curricular delivery would occur through Praxi, Student Gmail, Google Classroom, and RightNow Media biblical video instruction with prompts. Lower School teachers would provide parents with instructions for guiding their children at home through age-appropriate instructional videos and written lessons. Upper School assignments would post each Monday morning, and all weekly coursework would be due by 5 pm on Fridays to teachers. Class discussions or chats will take place through Google Meet using WCA Gmail accounts. All grading and communication policies will be in effect throughout the entirety of remote learning weeks.

2) IF the Coronavirus pandemic ever disrupted commencement, the school would attempt to reschedule a summer commencement date. If unable to reschedule a graduation ceremony, the school would mail diplomas to graduates as well as final transcripts to their colleges of choice.

3) WCA employees would utilize Google Meet to conduct weekly Bible studies and prayer meetings, and weekly departmental staff meetings would take place via video conference.

4) Business Office functions, excluding inspections, would take place remotely (i.e., bill payments and accounts receivable).

5) Professional cleaning contractors would sterilize campus, and local health authorities would clear WCA to reopen before on-site activities resumed.

Be well and safe.

May God bless you and your family.

In Him,

Johnny Graham
