WCA Boy’s Hoops Posts Impressive Win at Home Versus Atlantic Shores, Downs Norfolk Christian Shorthanded

Coming off a disappointing loss versus Millwood the previous Saturday, it was critical that Coach Brown’s Eagles regroup quickly, as they faced yet another top flight opponent in our Metro rival Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks. And they did just that,  with a hard fought victory over Atlantic Shores last Tuesday night at home.

The Eagles had previously defeated Shores on their court in perhaps their most well-played game of the year. It was clear from the tip that Atlantic Shores wanted desperately to even the score. Although the Eagles led most of the way through the game, the Seahawks stayed within striking distance, mounting several big scoring surges, that would almost immediately be answered by the Eagles. Cle’Vonn Greene led all scorers with 25 points, with senior Xavier Green tallying 17 points to go with 13 rebounds as the Eagles won 74-60. Co-Captain Mike Duncan had 13 points and 5 assists. It was not all good news for the Eagles, however, as Duncan suffered a bad ankle sprain near the end of the game.

On the heels of that victory, WCA headed to Norfolk Christian to face a team they had beaten soundly earlier this year at home. This game, however, would offer a true test and something of a preview of next year’s team, as seniors Mike Duncan, Xavier Green and Ryan Flanagan were all out with illness or injury. The remaining roster rallied, however, with a an immense display of offense, trounced Norfolk Christian 100-63. Recently having committed to play basketball on scholarship at Lynchburg College, Andre Brown showed them the wisdom of their investment by pouring in a clear career high 34 points, while Greene tallied 22 points, and Junior guard RaShawn Cook put up a triple double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assist. Brother DaShawn Cook also chipped in with 12 points.

The Eagles play a pivotal game tonight in the VISAA Division 3 pool as they take on #3 ranked Life Christian Academy at home, before travelling to Exmore tomorrow to battle Broadwater Academy.
