WCA Thanks Canaan Smith and All Those Who Joined Us For His ‘Coming Home’ Concert

Sunday was the perfect sunny and crisp fall day for a heart warming concert. Briggs Amphitheatre at Lake Matoaka was filled with lots of Canaan Smith fans and loyal WCA families.

We were blessed to have Canaan Smith and his band travel to Williamsburg for our benefit concert to honor his brother Nathaniel.  This show truly displayed his heart and the importance of the fund established in his brothers memory at Williamsburg Christian Academy.  Canaan’s touching rendition of “Bronco” captured the true reason for this benefit concert. You could hear a pin drop during this song and could feel God’s presence.  Canaan struggled as he teared up while singing this song and the audience cheered him on to finish.  The Coming Home Concert was a healing event for so many.

The onstage interview with former Head of School, Jane Vaught articulated the long time relationship with Canaan and his family with WCA, while Dr. Breslin spoke of the bright future for the school.  They presented the Smith family with a framed pencil sketch of the current building as a thank you for their commitment and love of the school.  All of Canaan’s immediate family were in attendance and many of them hadn’t been to Williamsburg in ten years.

Many thanks to WMBG radio, Whisper Concerts and the many corporate sponsors who helped us reach our goal to reestablish the fund.  And of course, an event of this size would not have been possible without the many volunteers from within the WCA family and surrounding community. Thank you!

Please enjoy a video of Canaan’s touching performance of Bronco below:
