WCA Varsity Boys Eagle Basketball Improves to Perfect 14-0 Metro mark with Blowout Wins over 3 Metro Opponents

Our Boy’s Basketball Team has been busy racking up victories…and turning heads in Virginia State basketball, after an impressive defensive effort in their win over VISAA D3 #3 Life Christian Academy, and huge offensive shows versus 3 other Metro Opponents.
It was a bust week and a half for WCA, as it played 4 games in the span of 7 days…and was supposed to be even busier, as games versus Isle of Wight and Virginia Episcopal were both called due to travel weather.
The week started with a very big VISAA Division 3 matchup against Life Christian Academy, who at game time were the #3 ranked team to WCA’s #1. Life came out running, but WCA was able to use their harassing defense to limit LCA to just 20 points on the half. Life was able to cut the lead down to 7 in the third with an increased defensive effort, but the Eagles exploded for 26 points in the fourth to seal an impressive 18 point victory. Scoring was well spread out with Cle’von Green tallying 18, Rashawn Cook with 16 and Xavier Green with 15.
The Eagles followed that victory with three straight victories over Metro opponents, Broadwater Academy at Exmore, VA, Porstmouth Christian at Home, and Alliance Christian in Portsmouth.
At Broadwater, five players scored in double figures, expanding a narrow 8 point lead at the half to 21 points at the end of the third. Andre Brown led all scorers, and was joined in double digits by Mike Duncan, Xavier Green, Cle’von Greene and Rashawn Cook.
Next stop was a home game last Saturday night against then #8 Portsmouth Christian. Absent their 6’4″ forward E.J. Hinton, PCS was no match for WCA’s speed and defense. WCA immediately claimed a 30-6 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter, and cruised the rest of the way for a 91-57 victory. Cle’von Greene benefited from a number of defensive caused breakaways, and ended up with 26 points. Xavier Green had a near triple double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.
The Final game of the group was against #6 Alliance Christian, and in a familiar theme, it was the Green(e)s at the heart of the victory. Cle’von Greene dumped in another impressive 29 points and Xavier Green scored  18 to go along with 15 rebounds, 11 assists and 5 steals for a triple double. Mike Duncan followed with 14 points, shooting 71% from the field, in a 100-76 win.
The team wraps up it’s schedule tonight and tomorrow night (2/18-19) against Isle of Wight and Hampton Christian (senior night), 7PM tip both nights.
Come out and support the team and our seniors in their last regular season games!
