Williamsburg Christian Academy embarks on its Metro soccer season today, as both the JJV and Varsity soccer teams will play host to Portsmouth Christian School. The Eagles have returned much of the squad from last season, with the notable departure of graduating senior Henry Comber. The team has grown substantially in size due to changes in the school’s new activity fee structure. The senior-heavy varsity team features Class of 2018 members Cle’von Greene, Ra’Shawn and Da’Shawn Cook, Robert Carter, Jahvon Noray, Joshua Jiang and Evan Henley. They will be backed up by some very capable underclassmen, including club soccer players Peter Rodenburg and Christian Robinson, as well as sophomore 2016/17 All-Metro Team selection Jalen Vaughan, among others. The team has tremendous speed and good size, and should be able to give the PCS Patriots team (who defeated WCA 6-1 in the first game of last season) a run for their money and potentially claim a win, as they did in the two team’s second meeting last season.
Game time is tonight at 5:15PM. We are hoping for a big crowd tonight, it’s a beautiful day for soccer! Admission is $5 for adults, students and staff are admitted free.
The JJV team will also kick off its season today against the Patriots JJV squad. Similar to the varsity group, the numbers for the JJV team have climbed dramatically, and the team has excellent speed, led by full year club player Keith Cardenas. The JJV game will kickoff at 3:45PM.
We hope to see big numbers onsite for both our JJV and Varsity teams. Show up and support your Eagles!
